The history of Cricket being first played in Kuwait dates back to 1947 where Kuwait Oil Company Senior Staff employees formed a cricket club and started playing matches between the Oil Company employees and those of the Contracting Companies.
During the late 70’s many expatriates started seeking jobs in this tiny desert Kingdom and cricket being a popular game amongst the Asians thrived in Kuwait too, thus several cricket clubs being formed to play this noble game on Fridays. Domestic cricket is backbone of Cricket in any country. Kuwait Cricket, the apex body of cricket in Kuwait has been able to formulate strong Domestic setup with large participation level. The domestic tournaments is being conducted in four major facilities.
Major part of Domestic cricket is organized by Kuwait Oil Company cricket Committee which has two lovely laid turf grounds named as Hubara & Unity grounds. KOC cricket committee was also engaged in conducting tournaments for school children in order to promote grass root level cricket.
Kuwait Cricket is directly involved in conducting domestic cricket to cater the needs of cricket lovers and the games are played at Doha Entertainment city ground and Sulaibiya grounds which are also turf grounds with lush green outfields
Gulf Consults is another major cricketing center which hosts tournaments for the cricket crazy crowd in Kuwait. The Tournaments are conducted at Gulf center grounds in three cement pitches at Jleeb Al-Shuwaikh.
TACK is the latest cricketing center which has its ground at Sulaibiya and there too matches are played on cement wicket in four grounds.
